Wednesday the 27th is Sammie's actual 2nd birthday, but since we had some family visiting from out of town this weekend, we decided to have a party while they were here. My Grandma Cherry and Aunt Peggy were here for a few days and we had a good time visiting with them and sharing our Oklahoma home. Peggy especially liked getting to know Jim better since he's usually either gone or not very talkative during visits with my extended family. Nothing against Jim, he's just quiet thats all. So he really got to impress Peggy and Grandma with his coffee and waffle making skills as well as awesome dad skills.
So we had a party and I made an elmo cake which turned into a pink elmo cake. Oh well. Who knew that getting a good red frosting would be so difficult? Sammie loved having us sing Happy Birthday to her and she did a great job blowing out her 2 candles! She also loved opening her presents and kept saying "wow! wow!" as she pulled things out of their gift bags. Too cute. She got a Mr.Potato Head and some of his Spud friends from Peggy and Grandma. They keep her busy for minutes at a time which is amazing! I guess Sammie was due for some new toys that actually kept her attention for longer than a minute! Actually, Sammie has been doing great with her "old" toys. She plays with all of them every day and I am impressed that she hasn't started ignoring some of them. Anyway, back to the Potato Head, which, when Sammie says it comes out as "Mistermatohead". It kinda sounds like Mister Tomato Head, so now that's what I call it on accident. She also adores her new stuffed elephant toy and the Little Engine That Could book from my cousin Jonell. She wants me to read it at least twice before each nap and bedtime and then in the morning she brings it out to the living room and reads it to herself!
Tomorrow on Sammie's real birthday we have a playdate set up with her friend, Claire, at her favorite park. Then we are going to try out the new spray park that is across the street. In the evening we are just going to have some family time with Jim and I and Sammie and leftover Elmo. Then we're going to tear into the rest of the gifts from us and the grandparents. I'm so excited!

I am so glad Sammie likes her elephant and book. That makes me happy! :)
Love,

Funny about the "red" elmo icing. I had the exact same problem a few weeks ago on Isaiah's elmo cupcakes. I just couldn't put enough dye in it to make it look red (and keep me from feeling like I was poisoning the kids!). Cute cake!
We did have a great weekend and the waffles Jim fixed for us were great. (and he is a good dad).
By the way Joni and Jim we made it home safe and sound.
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Love,
Peggy
Happy Birthday Sammie! I'm sad we couldn't be there to celebrate with you, but we're bringing you back something cool from NJ!!!
I love Sammie's smile in the picture of the three of you.
I'm waiting for camping photos . . .
