Who likes to floss?
Okay, so the big question of the day for those of you who read my blog and have young children is....Do you floss your toddler's teeth? Because I just took Sammie to the dentist for the first time last week (the day after her first haircut)and both the hygenist and the dentist talked matter of factly about "when" not "if" I floss Sammie's teeth. I just sat there thinking "you want me to try to get a tiny piece of string in between the teeth of this tazmanian devil?" So I thought I'd get on here and blog about it and ask if any of you actually floss your kids' teeth. Beth is interested in hearing your answers as well because we discussed this yesterday while our tazmanian devil children ran in circles around her house and little Deacon did his old man shuffle behind them. (hope you don't mind that description, Beth!)

Spikes!
Sammie's got a cool do. She's 9 months old here.
Sweet face!
I love Samantha's sweet face!

Floss!? Are you kidding. I can barely get a toothbrush in Anna's mouth. We actually had quite a tiff about brushing teeth last night and so I started a chart and now she gets a star sticker to put up on it when she brushes well. Hopefully that will motivate her to do a half decent job of it.
Here's my two cents and long answer.:) We use the little animal or crayon shaped flossers because it is easier than putting my fingers in the kids mouths.
I'm a bit behind on the dentist thing. Emma just went a few weeks ago for the first time because we haven't had dental insurance. She is 6 1/2 and just started losing her teeth a few months ago. There is a cavity between two back molars and the x-rays show potential for more in the lower jaw. We brush regularly and sometimes floss when I'm up for it. Neither of them are juice drinkers or had bottles. The dentist told me that baby teeth decay much faster than adult teeth and the back molars don't come out until 11-12 years old. He claims that regular flossing may save those teeth from having to be filled. So, we'll be doing a lot more flossing around here. There you go - more than you ever wanted to know about our brushing and flossing habits.
Anna went to the dentist earlier this year (a nice, older man...Kristen's dad's friend!) and he was just happy we brushed her teeth once a day, saying twice would be "excellent." Didn't mention flossing. That seems kinda ridiculous. Maybe the daughter of the pediatric dentist should ask her Pops. I'm 100% sure my parents didn't floss my teeth when I was 2 and I've never had a cavity.
I agree, that's a bit crazy. I've just been getting the boys used to it by letting them have their own floss, when I floss and ocassionally I'll floss their teeth.
I think you'll be able to do it more in a year or so.
