Commander's wife and poop.....

March 31st was a big day in the Starling household! Well, a big day for Jim mostly. He took command and had a birthday all on the same day! What a nice present! Can you guess how old he is?
This is Jim and his First Sgt., Sgt. Norris, during the change of command ceremony. Jim is now commanding Charlie company, 434th detachment at Ft.Sill, OK. The ceremony was unfortunately indoors because of the looming thunderstorm that was awaiting outside. Of course it never actually rained or thundered, but you know it would have if they had done the ceremony outdoors. As I was walking to the building I ran into the First Sgt's wife who I had met previously, and she introduced me to her in-laws as the "Commander's Wife". Whoa! That was weird. There appears to be no coffee group or established FRG which means that for the moment I am a lonely commander's wife because Jim's boss isn't married. But that's ok because I've got my schedule busy with MOPs and playdates.

Jim's parent's were here visiting over their spring break from school and we had a nice visit with them. Samantha loooved having their undivided attention and took advantage of their help and I did things like...read my book undisturbed for minutes at a time. It was great! They extended their stay a few days so that they could see Jim take command. It was neat that they could see the ceremony, I know they are so proud of Jim. Here we are with Jim's mom, Sue after the reception. Oh, and just a side note...Sammie is having trouble saying "grandma", it mostly comes out like a garbled version of "mama". So one day I asked her to say "Sue" instead, and she promptly said "poop!" So now Grandma Starling is now Grandma Poop. How nice. And it wasn't just a one time thing either, we asked her over and over again to say Sue and all that came out was poop! Funny girl

While the grandparents were here we went to the park and Sammie got to show off her skills. She climbs up to the top and goes down the slide all by herself! But of course I'm right there to watch her. One time she even managed to flip over and finish the slide on her back, head first! I think it scared her a bit. This cute pic is courtesy of Grandma Sue, aka Grandma Poop.

And here is just a random pic that I wanted to share. Thank goodness Ani has a high tolerance for toddlers, because Sammie loves everything about Ani. Her eyes, her ears, her tail, her perfect height for being used as a chair.....

I was starting to wonder what had happened to you guys. We're lucky that Phil has a tolerence for toddlers as well. Anna went thru a phase were she liked poking him in the eyes and pulling his ears. I think he's thankful she is over it. Anna also has the same cherry shirt. I didn't really think about it having cherries on it, but just thought it was cute (and on clearance too). If I get a good picture I'll have to send it your way.

Congrats Jim!

Congratulations to Jim! (Funny, my Jim took command on his birthday, too. Well, it was his birthday here, but I can't remember whether it was actually his birthday that day in Iraq because I'm just bad at stuff like that.) Sammie ia so cute!
