Enough of the cute stuff already!

Today I have been convicted to write a blog post that has nothing cute in it. For some reason I usually only write cheery, cute things about my girls or my family and I've finally decided to write a more realistic post. Well, okay, my girls are super cute and do cute things, but is that all I have to write about? Come on Joni, it's time to share what you're really thinking....

So here we go....
-I am finding Oklahoma weather to be particularly annoying at this time of year. I think it is the only place where, when you check the weather for the week, the forcast is for wind. Not sunny. Not overcast. Not rainy. Nope, we get forcasts just for wind. Awesome. And this is the kind of wind that blows for no particular reason. It's not blowing in a storm, it's just blowing for the heck of it. And this kind of wind, say around 50mph gusts, causes some crazy things to happen.

Example #1: The wind today literally blew away my bagger at the commissary today as we went outside to my car. Granted, she was the smallest, oldest, Korean lady who was working as a bagger at the Ft.Sill commissary, but still! She couldn't manage my cart of groceries out to the parking lot and I felt so bad watching her try to do so, that I had her go back and wait up at the curb so that I could get my car and do a drive-by grocery pick up. And I still gave her a tip! A bigger one that I usually give too. I think I felt bad that she almost blew away to Arkansas.

Example #2: Upon arriving at home after the commissary excursion I pull into my driveway and see a barefoot, neighbor guy who I don't know picking up my giant garbage can that had fallen over. It was garbage pickup day, but now that the garbage had been picked up, there was nothing left to keep the cans where they belonged. They were now all over the entire neighborhood, on lawns, in flowerbeds, in the middle of the street. Anyway, I thought this random guy was just being nice, but then he started examining the inside of my empty can for a good, say 10 seconds. Umm....was this a neighbor or a homeless guy looking for a snack? So by the time I parked in the garage and got out of my car he was across the street examing other empty trash cans. Turns out, he couldn't find his own trash can because it blew away and was looking for his. How could he tell which one was his when they all look alike, I still don't know. But he mentioned something about each one having a serial number...yea, I don't know. I've never bothered to see if my can had a number and if I had, I certainly wouldn't have memorized it, but I guess this guy did. He must be a native Oklahoman and he's used to his trash can blowing away.

Okay, that's it for the first post about "what Joni is really thinking". Thanks for reading. I'm sure there will be more posts like this in the future.

Okay, so I couldn't resist. Here are a few entertaining (see I didn't say cute) pictures of Sammie and Reese. In this one you can see how Sammie likes her hair done these days with ever-single-one of her plastic barretts in her hair. This was before going to church too.

This is a lovely picture of Sammie's dolls doing what she calls "squats" but are more like lunges. She has seen me do a number of lunges and squats while trying to burn off the baby weight and apparently she has decided that her doll house family also needs some exercise.

This one was taken in the backyard on Jim's birthday. Sammie has her serious face on and Reese just looks surprised to be hanging out in midair. They don't really look alike, do they?

So, I totally understand your frustration about OK wind. Yesterday was really nice, enough to go on a walk, but today people are getting blown over. Will it ever end?

As far as the guy looking for trashcan, I actually got into our can and scrubbed it out with soap and everything (so it's our dirt and not the previous homeowners). I can understand how he'd want his 'clean' trashcan back, if there is such a thing, I had Ryan look for a clean can when ours blew away.

The girls are adorable, and no, they don't look alike yet. Reese has gotten so big...can't wait to catch up with you at the next MOPS!!

JONI! There is a big white serial number on every single garbage can the city gave us. They also gave us a piece of paper on which to write said serial number so you'll always have the number in your house in case the wind blows away your can - I guess. Now, I haven't written the number down myself, but I know it's there. Maybe I should go do that. Hmm...

But yeah, the wind is insane. You know it's too much when it keeps knocking your kid down as you're trying to get to your car.

Well, no one told me about writing down any serial number! Maybe that was Jim's department and the word never got around to me.....

Sammie is such a crack up! I laughed out loud at her "barrette do". And she looks like such a big girl in the back yard pic. I can't wait to get to know Reese better!I miss them.

I think wind is annoying too. But I love Sammie's choice of hairstyle for church. Do you put all those in?
