So Beth told me that Jenn Wake and Suzanne Mikkelson would be at the PWOC retreat down in Grapevine, Texas and she asked if I wanted to go down for a day to see them. Of course I did! Once we tricked Josh into watching Sammie along with his two boys, we were off! Actually, Josh very nicely volunteered to watch Sammie and kept saying "yes" after repeated proddings of "are you sure you want to watch all three kids by yourself?". Jim was on a staff ride and wouldn't be home until Saturday evening so that's why we needed Mr.Josh. Beth and I took off Saturday morning and drove down to the hotel in Texas where the conference was held. We sat in the lobby waiting for Jenn to return Beth's text messages, and when she didn't, we decided we were starving enough to pay the ridiculous prices at the hotel restaurant so that we could get some lunch. Finally Jenn remembered to check her phone for texts (silly Jenn) and then she made her way with the Mikkelson's to the restaurant to come hang with us! Once Beth and I lined our stomachs with a giant portion of Texas nachos we all paraded around the lobby until we found an empty couch and chairs. We proceeded to sit down and not move for about four hours. It was awesome. We said our hellos to passing PWOC ladies but basically we just sat and visited for forever. I thought we'd leave the hotel at some point to do shopping or go out to coffee, but since the hotel was in the airport it was easier to just stay put. It was so great to catch up with Suzanne and Jenn! They realized that they were in college when Beth and I were born (1980) and I think that freaked them out a little bit. :)
As we were chatting away and working on making lasting butt imprints on the hotel lobby couches, Beth looked up and said "doesn't that lady look like Kristen Toth's mom?" So Jenn hopped right up and asked her if that's who she was....and she was! I mean, we knew Mrs.Chandler was a PWOC bigwig, but we didn't think that we'd see her. It was almost like Kristen Toth was there! I guess if you can't see your Germany friends in person, the next best thing is getting to see their mom! So we took a picture to prove that we saw her.

After our booties got tired of sitting, Jenn, being the law abiding chaplain's wife that she is, snuck us in illegaly to the PWOC dinner. Beth and I were still stuffed from the nachos, but we managed to pack in a few bites of dinner and dessert. After dinner we said our goodbyes and headed home.
Jim had arrived home earlier than expected and was able to help Josh with the kiddos so that was good. Josh even said that he had a good time babysitting! Sammie was a good girl for him so I was glad. Beth and I had a fun girl's day without any kids or husbands around. I think we'll have to do it again soon and instead of visiting with long lost friends, we'll go do some Christmas shopping....if Josh will watch the kids again that is....

That's so fun!! I love this small Army world we live in. Joni - you look great!
See? It's good you blogged about it too because you put in things about the day I didn't, so whoever reads both accounts will get a fully story and appreciation for the awesome day we had. :)
My mom is famous! Two blogs. And she got to see my two dear, long lost friends. Lucky her!
Glad you had fun. Sounds like a blast. Way more fun than I expect most PWOC events to be.
Miss you guys. Wait, Beth is going to Alaska, are you guys going anywhere soon?
I was wondering how your day went. I'm glad you had such a great time. Kristin's mom makes me think of Cheryl Trumbly.
I miss you!
